Naruto Chapter 418 - "Naruto, The Sage!" Summary
The chapter opens with Naruto training at Mt. Myoboku, perfectly balancing his seat upon a spike, finally completing the requirement of the training to cease all movement. Fukasaku smiles at Naruto's progress. Natural energy floods towards Naruto and his eyes morph, different from before, into toad eyes not from an overload of natural energy, but because at long last Naruto has achieved Sage Mode. Fukasaku remarks that Naruto has progressed tremendously, creating more Sage Chakra than he had been able to with the toad oil. Suddenly, a bird lands on Naruto's shoulder, comedically throwing him off balance and causing him to fall. However, when he lands, Naruto notices that oddly, the fall didn't hurt him that much. Fukasaku explains that now that Naruto is in Sage Mode, his body has been improved tremendously. He then explains that there's one last step to training in Sage Techniques: Frog-style martial arts. Meanwhile, at Akatsuki and Hawk's hideout, four Hidden Cloud Village shinobi attempt an infiltration, only to discover their comrade dead, likely at Sasuke's hand. Night falls. While Fuksasku sleeps, Naruto trains in secret, commenting that he's achieved something, but needs to continue training in Sage Mode and must be in secret. Back at Konoha, in the Cryptographers' Office, Shikamaru, Sakura, and Shiho attempt to deduce the meaning behind Jiraiya's code, "The real one isn't there." Shikamaru suggests that Pain's six bodies were just using genjutsu while Konan was the one attacking. Sakura doubts this, noting that the bodies stabbed and killed Jiraiya physically, two feats, one of which is impossible through genjutsu alone, the other almost so by nearly all genjutsu. Sakura further posits that such a genjutsu is too complex and farfetched. Shikamaru, remembering his encounters with Hidan and Kakuzu, replies that there's nothing too farfetched with Akatsuki. Meanwhile, with the Interrogation Squad, Yamanaka Inoichi arrives to assist Ibiki in the information extraction from Jiraiya's Hidden Rain prisoner. Inoichi discovers powerful genjutsu shields that protect him from their truth serums, which Ibiki theorizes Pain set. During this, Shizune and her medical team continue their autopsy of the Summoning Pain body. They appear to have extracted the black metal from its body and have ground up part of the metal into powder for inspection. Cut to a scene of a massacre. A squad of shinobi litters the ground, dead, slain by the Six Paths of Pain and Konan. As they arrive at the walls of Konoha, Pain remarks, "This is nothing compared to the pain the world will suffer."
